The Umut Foundation was founded to educate individuals to become modern people and good citizens, helping youth and children to be protected from guns and aggression of any sort, solving conflicts amicably, creating a peaceful environment and believing in the power of justice to conquer all. The Foundation in line with its objectives every year traditionally organises a contest entitled 'Individual Disarmament' in several mediums such as sculpture, photography, news reporting, comic strips and short films, and gives seminars and produces academic papers on 'Becoming a Citizen'. In this day and age when the active participation of civil initiatives is gaining importance due to the process undertaken to be in harmony with the European Union, the Umut foundation, since its founding in 1993, has been of assistance in the protection and entrenchment of fundamental human rights and the upholding of world peace and justice through several events that have been hosted, such events include 'International Individual
Disarmament Symposium', 'First Balkan Conference', 'First, second and third Peace and Conciliation Science and Art European Conference', 'Middle East Media Conference: Towards a Peaceful Solution', 'Law-based Training Seminars regarding Establishment and Entrenchment of the existence conditions of a Social Government', 'Reasons and Results of Individual Armament in Our Nation'.
The Umut Foundation, due to its performance to date, has been assigned as a consultant to the United Nations. Our foundation is very proud of this honour which has only been given to five civil initiatives in Turkey.
